Overview
Since 2002, Suter has been using its expertise in high-performance engines for applications outside of racing, including the automotive, aerospace, and defense industries. Suter gained renown for products like the “SuterClutch,” high-performance racing motorcycles, and 2-stroke engines, notably the Suter MMX500 (launched in 2015).

Suter’s Transition to UAV Engines
A major step happened in 2018 when Suter partnered with Dietrich Kehe, a mechanical engineer who brought over 24 years of experience specifically with 2-stroke aircraft engines from Hirth Motors. This collaboration resulted in the formation of CAE Engines (by Dietrich Kehe) and a new Suter aerospace division.
This partnership is a powerhouse: it combines Kehe’s deep knowledge of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) engines with Suter’s specialized background in 2-stroke racing engine design, testing, and production. The result is the creation of a new, world-class supplier of advanced UAV engines.
Gasoline & Heavy Fuel Engines
The first engine developed by the joint team was the Suter TOA288, a twin-cylinder, horizontal opposed, air-cooled, two-cycle engine with a 288cc displacement. It features a fuel-saving electronic engine management system, 1kW starter/generator (2kW also available) and automatic altitude/temperature compensation producing 17.5kW (24HP). All engines are manufactured in Switzerland and are 100% tested and supplied with a certificate of conformance. We also offer APU solutions for eVTOL’s as well as reduction drive solutions to increase thrust and reduce noise.
The current product line includes five core engines:
- TOA288 (Air-cooled, 288cc, throttle body injection, Gasoline) 17.6kW (24hp)
- TOW288 (Water-cooled, 288cc, throttle body injection, Gasoline) 20.0kW (27.2hp)
- HF-TOA288-SDI (Air-cooled, 288cc, semi-direct injection, Heavy Fuel*) 16.5kW (22.5hp)
- TOA330 (Air-cooled, 330cc, throttle body injection, Gasoline) 21.5kW (29.2hp)
- HF-TOA330-SDI (Air-cooled, 330cc, Semi-Direct Injected Heavy Fuel*) 18.1kW (24.5hp)
*Compatible, running on Jet-A1, JP5, or JP8
